No turning back
That’s it then, the contract has been signed.
I’ve committed the next year of my life to researching and writing a book on social software in the enterprise for Gower Publishing. It all came about after The Ark Group invited me to run a masterclass on the same subject in August.
If you’re interested, you can read more about both me and the book on this blog.
Given the subject of the book I intend to practice what I preach, so I’ll be using this blog to document my journey from 0 to 60,000 words over the next year. I want to share not only my thought processes, but also any insights into the writing process to help other first-time authors like me.
In addition, given that many of my research sources will be online, I intend to make full use of social bookmarking tools like del.icio.us or RawSugar and share these resources publicly.
Furthermore, in due course I will be setting up a wiki to post chapter summaries, case studies, questions and answers for anyone to read and contribute to. This wiki will continue following publication to serve as both a living resource for those who purchase the book, as well as a gateway into the title for others.
So if you’re interested in joining me on this slightly daunting journey, please subscribe to my RSS feed (email alternative here) or simply check back regularly.

Niall — Congratulations on your book contract! I’ve spent the last ten years in the publishing industry as a book writer and editor, so I know both the elation and dread that hits you all at once when the papers are signed and the deal is done.
I’ve subscribed to your blog feed and look forward to participating in your book wiki. If there’s any advice or assistance I can offer, I’ll be happy to do so.
Best of luck to you!
