A Progress Update

Firstly, an apology.

Having started this blog as a way to report on my journey towards my first non-fiction book on the topic of social software in the enterprise, I didn’t quite appreciate that the last thing I’d want to do after a day’s writing is write some more… I’m sorry if I disappointed you.

I’ve been following Dan Poynter’s writing system (thanks Dan). The progress summary is this:

  • Research: done
  • First (rough) draft: done
  • Second (content edit) draft: in progress
  • Third (peer review) draft: see request below
  • Fourth (copy edit) draft: here’s hoping

Secondly, a request.

My first two chapters are ready for the stage called “peer review”. Not all writers do this. Maybe they’re afraid of feedback, or think they don’t need it. I’m damn sure I do!

As a result, I’m now looking for peer reviewers who would be interested in receiving each chapter and giving me the benefit of their opinion.

The two chapters ready are:

  • The Social Media Explosion

An introduction to social media, Web 2.0 and social software and their implications to business leaders
  • The Birth of Social Software

Why social software, what it looks like, how the enterprise software industry should change, and the history of social software going back to Vannevar Bush’s ‘Memex’

If you take part, I will of course mention your contribution in the Acknowledgements and ensure you get an electronic copy once it’s published. Just drop me an email telling me which chapter you’d like to review and what your credentials are on the topic.

Thirdly, a freebie.

I’ll update this post as more chapters are ready for peer review, but if you want to see the full contents list and introduction as they current stand, here’s a PDF to help.

Thanks.
